PSA 02

Tick borne diseases are no joke. (tl;dr – Check your crevasses)

Many of us don’t live in our vans. We prefer to live outside them – Hiking, biking, or just strolling through the woods.

Often the trails are narrow, and a perfect throughfare for small and large mammals. And in many (most?) parts of our fair country, these mammals (mouse, deer, horses, bears, elk, etc.) are the unfortunate hosts of various species of ticks.

As I understand it, when ticks need to find a new host, most climb up a tall stalk of grass or similar and wait for a host to walk by brushing against the plant. Then they hop aboard your leg and start to climb up, until a nice soft place is discovered. Then it’s dinner time! They seem to like warm, moist places, but can and will embed just about anywhere.

Use a good anti-tick repellant whenever you go in tall grass, or on a trail. And when you get back, please check yourself (or better yet, have someone give you a complete inspection). Learn how to remove them safely and completely .

Tick borne diseases are no joke. Don’t ask me how I know.
